The end of an era

We knew this day would come eventually, I had just hoped it would happen after 2026 (the year Meredith will graduate from high school). Nazareth Academy, my alma mater, has announced that they are closing their doors. Officially they are merging with Aquinas and the Powers That Be have promised that the Nazareth traditions will be kept alive through this new merger. I'm not holding my breath on that one but at least for a few years, they will try. I must say that I am mostly sad. Nazareth was and is a huge part of who I am. The years I spent there will alway be precious to me and the women I met there will always have a place in my heart.

I am also disappointed.

I was looking forward to Meredith attending Naz (if she wanted). I wanted to have the legacy with my daughter that I saw my friends have with their mothers and even their grandmothers. In all honesty I started thinking about it the very night she was born. I wanted her to have a class ring just like mine, to roam those hallways, to sing the school song and to take her senior skip day with  the greatest women she would ever meet. I know she will still have those things in a different way, in a different school, but the disappointment will linger for me.

Nazareth gave me so much more than just an education. I gained knowledge, insight, inspiration, beloved friends and the opportunity to meet and marry the love of my life. Mike has been a part of the Nazareth family since 1993 and has played such an important role in many of the students' lives. We have hundreds, if not thousands of pictures from Nazareth Volleyball.  Now we just hold them tighter.

Thank you Nazareth for all that you have given me and my family. I will always remember you.

Bless you my sister, bless you on your way. You have roads to roam before you’re home, And winds to speak your name. So go gently my sister, Let courage be your song. You have words to say in your own way, And stars to light your night. And if ever you grow weary and your heart song has no refrain, Just remember we’ll be waiting to raise you up again. And we’ll bless you our sister, bless you on your way. And we’ll welcome home all the life you’ve known, And softly speak your name.

So Mere and I are talking in the car while taking Des and Molly to thier vet appointment. With Christmas over, Mere is very concerned that everyone's birthdays are celebrated with a big party. She asked me how old I would be at my next birthday. This is our conversation-

"Mommy, what number is your next birthday going to be?"

"Thirty-six"

"Forty-six?"

"No, Thirty- six"

"Forty-six?"

"No, honey, thirty-six"

"Forty-six?"

NO, THIRTY-SIX. Thirty six. Mere say Thirty."

"Forty?"

"No, Thirty"

"Forty?"

and this goes on and on till we get to the vet's office. i just hope she doesn't announce to everyone she meets that mommy will be 46 on he next birthday.

Meredith stopped me at the top of the stairs this evening.

"Daddy, can I be 3 again for my next birthday?"

I explained to to her how it works and she proceeded to count birthdays for me.

"We start at one, two, three, three again, four."

"No honey, you count just like normal, 1,2,3,4,5 . . ." I said.

She then proceeded to count again, "One, two, three, four, five, grown up!".

Weekend morning, Meredith finally rolls out of bed and heads to the bathroom. She decides it is time to run naked through the house. Not sure it is a wise move on a 15 degree morning, but it is her choice. Next thing I know, Chris is doubled over in laughter in the kitchen.

Chris - "Mere, why do you have you hand over your butt?"

Mere - "I didn't want any fart germs to get in the kitchen"

Such a sweet kidTongue out

So Mere is the anti-music kid most of the time. She likes Muse, she'll also let us play The Beatles Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. So with the introduction, we'd like to introduce Desmond and Molly.
